Should people be FREE to express their opinions even if they are hurtful?
What sort of tolerance do you have towards people who insult/humiliate others?

I do not think that everyone should be free to see whatever they want to say because sometimes it an be hurtful. I know that everyone has the right of speech, but saying whatever you want can create a conflict and make people start to fight. I do not like people that humiliate others and I find it very disrespectful when someone does.

DeleteI think that people should express their opinion, even if they might be hurtful towards certain groups of people. But I think that the people who say these kinds of things should phrase it in a respectful manner. As long as they phrase their opinion in a respectful manner, they can have any opinion they wish to express. But it crosses the line when they are rude and un-respectful in the way that they say it.

DeletePersonally, I think that you should be able to express your opinions even if they are hurtful, but certainly not on a popular sports show. I think that you can express your own opinions on others, only in the right time and place, for example, at a press conference, for laws, if they ask for your opinion etc. But I think what Don Cherry did, was not good, because he would express his opinion on others, whenever he wanted, even knowing that there were millions of people watching, and a lot being offended. I don't really like when people insult others, with their race, culture etc in front of a big crowd, where a lot of people get offended easily. I don't find it right to humiliate others, because everyone should be treated the way they are and how they want to be treated, no matter who they are.

DeleteYes I think people should be free to express their opinions even if they are hurtful but to a certain extent. If they are just expressing how they feel in a polite and mannered way I think that is completely fine. Sometimes people go a bit overboard and say really hurtful things in a mean way with no explanation. I don't think that it is okay to insult and humiliate others. Sometimes it's a joke so it's okay but when it's on purpose I don't think people should be doing that.

DeleteYes, I think that people should be able express themselves in anyway that they want but on live tv it's not that smart to do that but if people would ever do that they should just know that they are going to have to pay the conciquences later. I have ZERO tollerance when it comes to something like that I would do exactly what Don Cherry did but probably not on national tv.

DeleteI think it would have been better for Don Cherry to keep his thoughts to himself because he lost his job that he had for many years, just because he didn’t think before he spoke, and because he didn’t think about the possible consequences. I don’t think people should always say what they think, because it can be hurtful to others, and most of the time their comments aren’t necessary. I really don’t like it when people make rude remarks to others because it hurts the other person's feelings, and as I had said before, it usually isn’t quite necessary.

DeleteIn my opinion, I think that Don Cherry should not have expressed himself like that on tv. He was better off telling someone else in person than saying it in front of millions of people. I think that if someone is thinking something that might offend others, then, people will have low tolerance because they might get hurt from that comment or they might take it very serious and not like him anymore. It is also a very rude thing to say towards others and he should’ve just kept it to himself, instead of losing his job towards something so dumb.

It was a comment that I do not think he should have expressed like that in front of many viewers. People are free to express themselves, and they are allowed to talk about their opinion but they should realize what is an appropriate thing to say, and what isn't appropriate. Before saying something, everyone should think about what they are going to say, to ensure it isn't a disrespectful comment. It upsets me when people humiliate others and are insulting because everyone has the right to an opinion but to hurt someone else like that is rude.

I think what Don Cherry said was very aggressive and he could have said it differently but he had a point. We let the immigrants come into our country and the least they should do is respect the people that fought for us. I think you shouldnt go saying those things on public tv cause its very insulting and rude but if your saying it privately and not to the social world then its not as bad.

He could have kept it all to himself instead of saying it all out loud and getting fired.I think people should have the right to express their feelings about what Don Cherry had to day. It was disrespectful and unnecessary. I think that thats its extremely insulting to french people and immigrants that Don Cherry said those things and if In were them I would definitely be hurt.

DeleteI think people should be able to express there feelings but if they express something they should not mention, they should be prepared for the consequences. When they say something that can be hurtful, is not polite and also not considerate they should keep it to themselves. Don Cherry did not think before thinking on what came out of his mouth, he is on national tv everyone can see him on their tv all around the world. People who are disrespectful are not very liked in my head, when someone is mean or rude I keep that in mind and remember that. I don't like people who are rude to others because you should treat others the way you want to be treated.

It does not leave a good impression on him. It's sad that he got fired, but I think that was necessary. It was not the first time he's said something rude, and at least now it won't have to persist. I don't really have tolerance for people who insult and humiliate others because everyone has their differences which we should respect. I think we should just keep our negative comments to ourselves, especially if you're on television.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, everyone should be allowed to express their feelings and culture. And yes, Don Cherry might disagree, but to be quite frank, he's racist and makes rude comments towards other cultures. Expression of opinions is a great thing, unless it may offend others, that's when it gets a little of the wall, displaying your racist opinion is unethical. I can tolerate others well, but when it gets too far and it's not a joke anymore, it's important to step in.

I can usually tolerate most formes of jokes/ light insults but when they get to a certain extent that's when we have to put the brakes on it.

There are no wrong opinions so I don't think people should get upset when they disagree with others even if what they say is rude. I do not agree with what Don Cherry said at all but I do believe that he should be free to have his own opinions, however, he should not have expressed his unpopular, rude opinions for millions of people to hear because this is what ended his career. I normally have a pretty high tolerance for people who insult or humiliate others simply because most of the same I’m thinking the same thing if not worse.
ReplyDeleteAs controversial as it may be, I do believe that people should be free to say what they want even if it may be hurtful. I think that being penalized for these words is more than okay, however the right of speech comes with its positives and negatives. Personally, I believe that people make mistakes and have bad days, so if someone says one rude thing or does one rude action towards me I let it go, to a certain extent of course. However, the moment these actions become constant or even become bullying, I take myself out of the situation immediately. People have no right to treat me however they want or take me for granted.
ReplyDeleteI think it is important for everyone to have the right to share their opinion, however when something is rude and unnecessary people shouldn’t say it because this can offend a lot of others. Sometimes things that are rude need to be said for the good of society but sometimes something that doesn't need to be said and is only meant to hurt someone's feelings is said. When this happens not only has the person made others feel bad about themselves but they could also lose their job. This is what happened with Don cherry who has always been someone to cross the line of acceptable and unacceptable but this time the viewers had enough, which lead to him being fired.

You shouldn't be getting your point across by insulting your peers, but instead it should be done in a respectful manor. DeleteI think that people should be able to share their opinion to a certain extent. I think if its rude or insulting somebody, they could maybe find another way to put it so it isn't as hurtful. I think these days people are lot more sensitive than they used to be so I think older people when expressing their opinion they dont realize that millennials and people our age are lot more sensitive to things like insults and hurtful things than maybe people were when they were our age. I myself am a sensitive person so I don't necessarily appreciate rudeness or insults towards myself and even others.

DeleteI believe everyone should be able to express their opinion freely. They should make a choice, though. Being toxic and harmful to people is never good and there isn't a single positive thing that gets out of that situation. That does not mean, however, that you can't say it just because it is frowned upon. Nobody (myself included) likes someone who is mean or aggressive.

ReplyDeleteI feel that people should be comfortable and be able to share their thoughts and opinions openly. If they are rude or offensive towards others it should be kept private. Sometimes certain opinions are meant the be personal since it can offend or hurts others feelings therefore they should have a filter towards what to say and what not. I feel that Don Cherry was sometimes too open towards his thoughts which is why he lost his job. Him making those comments offended and hurt a lot of people and later people had enough of his attitude and he got fired.
