Blog 11 - Wednesday, October 23, 2019

Last week was Digital Citizenship Week.

An important part of my English class is to make you aware of what you post on-line and what it means to be a good digital citizen.  Being a good digital citizen includes:
- being aware of your digital footprints;
- demonstrating safe and respectful online etiquette;
- not cyber-bullying, sexting, or posting inappropriate photos and/or videos,
- making important decisions about what to post to social media sites; and,
- not downloading or uploading inappropriate content

For this blog, I would like you to CREATE an important Digital Citizenship message using MEMES!

A meme in a generic message about a behaviour that is passed around on-line.

Using makeameme.org you will have to create a MEME about being a GOOD Digital Citizen.  You could share or e-mail me (gkatz@lbpearson.ca) the meme and then post your explanation about the meme on the blog site.

Have Fun!

  1. So the idea behind my meme is that you really do need to think about a lot of things before you post something online. You need to realize that what you are posting can affect what happens in the future, if what you did was mean and it made you lose friends, or if it just a dumb thing to post. You need to think about how all actions have consequences even though it might not be sudden.

  2. In my opinion, it’s very important to be a good digital citizen because it shows everyone who you are and what you’re like, that’s your digital footprint and your business. Being a good digital citizen means to stay clear of bad examples on the internet, not bullying others for their preferences, and always respecting those who use the internet just like you. For my meme i captioned *stupid person posts stupid pic* me: well… it is what it is. It’s basically representing me when I see something that shouldn’t be on the internet, I see it, then I say to myself “well that’s that”, “their choice not mine” or “it is what it is” because the post isn’t my business, but only the person who posted.

    1. I completely agree people should not care what they post because it's not them. Great blog!

  3. How I came up with my idea is from how I've heard people who only cyberbully because they think it's cool or their friends do it and they just want to fit in. You should never go along with something just to fit in, if they judge you they are not your true friends. Like the saying "if your friend jumps off a bridge, would you do it?" To be a good digital citizen, you need to respect others on the internet and not bully them for doing nothing wrong. With my meme I wrote "if you think cyberbullying is cool, you can't sit with us!" I had Regina George in the background. That means if you think it's cool to bully someone the reality is it's NOT.

  5. Out off all the memes I chose, I decided to put the kambucha girl as my image and the caption was “bullying others vs helping others”. Now my meme relates to being a good digital citizenship by showing you that bullying doesn’t help the situation AT ALL and how you should be helping others rather than bullying them/making fun of them.

  6. I think that it is important to be a good digital citizen, on-line everywhere. Meaning that you should be a good citizen on-line, not sending any inappropriate pictures, no cyber-bullying, not posting pictures of people without their consent, etc. In my meme, I said " It It takes one person to equal many", which meant that if one person sends a picture to another picture and so on, soon it will be posted and you might be made fun of.To be a good citizen, you need to respect other on-line, treat them right, and not bully them for what they do wrong. Also, you need to make good choices, because there are always people watching what you are doing.

  7. For my meme, I chose to use a picture of two toy story characters. One of them is pointing and something and showing and explaining it to the other, and the other one is in shoke. On my meme I wrote ''And thats what happens when you cyberbully''. This meme shows that if you are a person that cyberbullys and is a bully in general, their are many conseqences so youre better off being a good digital citezen and being nice to one another.

  8. In my meme I talked about cyberbullying and how it isn't cool. These days people think cyberbullying is something cool. It definitely is not. Cyberbullying is a very common issue that unfortunately happens to a lot of people. Most people think it only happens to teens but adults are also affected by it more often then you might think. People now have the option to hide behind a screen and because of this they aren't afraid to be rude or mean to people. Just because you are doing it through the internet doesn't mean it doesn't hurt he person you are cyberbullying. It keeps getting worse and worse so I think if you see cyberbullying you should say something. Sometimes people don't understand that it is a form of bullying and it shouldn't be tolerated.

  9. For my meme, I used a more “modern” template. There is a caption on top which reads: “Guy: *sends explicit photo to someone* And just below that reads: “Photo: *gets leaked and goes viral* Guy: Surprised Pikachu” So this meme was basically used to mock someone who was not a good digital citizen. They should have known that sending a photo online like that is not a good idea. Also, even just taking a photo like that is a really bad idea. Who knows what could happen? You could maybe get hacked

    1. Good job, we should be more aware with what we post.

  10. For my meme, I decided to make something about posting bad things online. I used a picture of a woman making like a "seriously?" face. I talked about how you shouldn't post inappropriate things online as well as just mean things. It's not right to be to someone especially online. It is also terrible to post certain images and such that may be either harmful or inappropriate.

  11. In my meme, I decided to pick the vault-tec boy holding the thumbs up because of it's positive air and vibe. The meme talks about how it's good to protect people who are being bullied online for any reason. It also instills the attitude of protecting anyone who is being harassed online as well.

  12. The idea behind my meme is that i'm explaining to my friends that whatever they post will always stay online, even if they delete it. Nowadays many people forget that even if they delete a post or video it will always stay online. The format I used for my meme was the toy story background to essentially explain that you should be aware of everything you post because it will never be deleted. I think this message is important because in the future, you may be declined by jobs based off of what you posted in high school.

  13. The meaning behind my meme, is that everything that you see online isn't always good, and not always right. If you see something online that's mean or just wrong, don't hesitate to delete or report the comment or post. The internet has a lot of people that don't think about others, and post mean things about other people, and it can really effect others. Digital citizenship is so important. Whatever you post online is apart of your digital footprint. There is no changing it. When your name is searched, all your posts will come up, so be responsible with what you post online!

  14. The meaning behind my meme is to not cyberbully. Cyberbullying is something that lots of teenagers my age do and think it is not right. I think it is awful that some people actually have the time to hate on others or make fun of them just for fun. I think we should stop this because there is not point to it and it just makes other feel bad about themselves.

  15. The meaning behind my meme is that buzz lightyear saying " TO DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP AN BEYOND" because I tried to do is to make him sound as if he is telling the people that are not a good digital citizen to think about all the stuff that they post online and to think if they really should post it or not. I think that people that are not a good digital citizen should wake before they post something that will get shared to everyone and they will be the ones getting the blame for it.

  16. For my meme, I decided to talk about the affects certain posts can have on your future. When you start to apply for jobs, some companies will do some extra research on you, and if they see bad things you once posted, they are not going to hire you. I showed this through an image of Dory, from Finding Nemo, who has a surprised face. Then I wrote, “My face when I see the kids these days post stuff that will ruin their lives”. Overall, I think creating this meme was a lot of fun!

  17. For my meme, I decided to demonstrate how easy it is for people to click on something that is sent by an email. I think it's awful that this stuff happens to people every single day just for the person to get some pleasure out of it. This message applies to all age groups that you really need to be careful of what you read online because it can get you in a really tight situation.

  18. My meme shows how shouldn't post pictures of others without their consent because it is very rude, may hurt someone's feelings and can create a lot of drama. For my meme I used a picture of Kermit the frog drinking tea with the caption “When your friend posts a picture of you without your consent” I decided to use this picture and caption to show that posting pictures of others without consent can cause drama

  19. In my meme I showed how being a cyberbully is really wrong. Cyberbullying is when one decides to bully and make fun of others through internet. Sadly, in our generation cyberbullying seems to be common which is really upsetting. People choose to make fun or ridicule someone online since  they aren't able to say it in person. Bullying can make someone feel bad and upset about themselves which should not be done since everyone should be able to feel confident in themselves. If its being done online it dosent mean it upsets or hurts someone rather than doing it in person. Many are scared of getting help or don't think it's a big deal while it is which can make the situation even more serious than it already is. You should always ask for help from someone you can trust.

  20. For the meaning behind my meme is based on digital citizenship and your digital footprint. A digital footprint is information about a person on the information based off of what they post. I think it's really important to be careful of what you post because you never how can see it and end with it. Think twice before you post something because once it's on the internet its always there.

  21. For my meme, I wrote “why in the world would you post that?” . So it's basically about a parent getting mad at a kid for posting inappropriate and disrespectful images online. We should be very careful about what we are posting because our actions define us. If you cyberbully then already people will think of you as a rude person and will have a bad reputation. You should never post something that you can get in trouble or hurt other people’s feelings and you should always be respectful and post appropriate images online.

  22. Being a good digital citizen is very important because it can reflect on you later on in life.My meme is about that, if you post something offensive it'll be hard to find a job because of it.The man in my meme is regretting posting an offensive picture online and is reflecting on it.The stuff you post online will always be found even if you delete it, this is why you should ask your self if it is a good idea to post it.

  23. My meme shows gordon ramsay yelling at one of his chefs. I did this because I feel like posting explicit photos of yourself online is something not only gordon would be upset about but the whole world should. I'm not saying slut shaming is okay because it's not but I am saying we should be more conscious about the decisions we make online because in the future when we try to get jobs or get into certain schools all they have to do is search our name and find those pictures. Some people find it difficult to understand what comments and pictures are acceptable to post and what are not so just remember; if gordon wouldn't approve then don't post it.
