Blog 4 - Monday, September 16, 2019

Last week, the federal government called an ELECTION.

One of the MAJOR topics is BILL 21 (banning of religious symbols in public).

How do you feel about BILL 21?
Should people be told that they MUST remove their religious symbol in public?

What is your HONEST opinion about this topic?
Explain.

  1. I think BILL 21 is completely unfair. Being able to express yourself in public or anywhere should be allowed. I don't think that BILL 21 should exist because it doesn't let people be proud of their religion. I think that it is completely wrong to tell someone they are not allowed to wear their religious symbol in public. If they respect and follow a religion that they are passionate about they should have the right to express and be proud of it. I am against BILL 21 and I most certainly do not understand why it bothers people when someone wears their religious symbol. I think everyone should have the right to wear what they want without getting discriminated.

  2. Personally, I don't agree with Bill 21. I feel that everyone should be allowed to wear whatever they want. If someone wants to wear a religious symbol I don't think anyone should take that away from them. I don't think anyone should be told to not wear their religious symbols because it is not in the interest of another person. I think everyone should be free to wear any religious symbols they want to and not have to worry about making someone else unhappy. It's important that everyone feels safe and free to wear whatever religious symbols they want to.

  3. I feel as if BILL 21 is completely unfair like my fellow classmate said. People should be able to express their religion and wear whatever they want and whenever they want. I don't think anyone has the right to tell you what you can't and can not wear when you're in public. For instance, if you do in fact wear a turban that's amazing, because you are expressing your religion and that's fine, because no one is allowed to tell you how to live your life. I think that BILL 21 is completely stupid and I don't understand how people are okay with banning religious symbols in public, because like I said before you should be allowed to express yourself with your religion.

  4. I think that bill 21 is extremely unfair. People should be more than welcome to express themselves, even with their religion. I think that anyone should be able to wear religious symbols, like a cross or headgear. For example, if you wear hijab, that's completely fine. You're not harming anyone or doing anything bad whatsoever, so why isn't it okay? I don't understand how people think it's fine to ban religious symbols.

  5. I don't agree with bill 21 because I don’t see anything wrong with people wearing religious symbols in the public. They don't cause any harm to society, it’s just them practicing their religion Wearing a religious symbol in the public is just expressing your religion. Religion is also some people’s one of the most important values and it gives them spiritual strength and they shouldn’t be stopped from practicing it. It’s important for some people to wear religious symbols to practice their religion.

  6. I think bill 21 is completely unfair. Anyone should be aloud to express their religion if they want. Wearing a religion symbol doesn't cause any harm so i don't understand whats so bad about it. No one should be told to remove their religious symbol in public because they can sometimes take it very seriously and all they want to do is practice a support their religion.

  7. I don't agree with Bill 21. I don't think it's fair and it's a big problem to have someone wear their religious head gear. Everyone should be able to support their religion free of judgement. You shouldn't look at someone differently because they are wearing their religious headgear. I find this rule very offensive towards people of religion and I don't think it's something that should happen. Maybe, instead of taking away people way of practicing their religion they should focus on other issues.

  8. I think that bill 21 is one of the worst laws ever passed. It is completely unfair.People should be able to express themselves how they want to. It's like they are telling anyone to be like them. They are representing what they believe and they should be able to do that. This law should not be a thing and someone should do something about it.

  9. To be honest I think Bill 21 is completely unfair. Everyone should be able to show their religious symbols and show people what kind of person they are. The law should have no right to take away something like that from people. Id think that many people are hurt by this law or offended. In a way thats like saying someone cant wear a symbol of there favourite sports team, its the same in a way because they belive that a specific team should win just like people believe in a sprcific religion.

  10. I find that bill 21 is not right and not fair. People should have the right to show their religion and be proud of it. People should not be told to remove their religious symbols. Religion is something a lot have. They should be proud of it even if other people don’t agree with it. In summary, this a stupid law and is just not right.

  11. Personally I don't agree with Bill 21. I think that people should be able to wear what they want to wear if it's based off of their religion. Just think of all the teachers who have to disobey their religion just to have a career in life. By creating Bill 21 their basically banning religions from school even though that's one of the main things that makes this world creative. Religions make people different in a good way. Even though I disagree with Bill 21 i do get why they did it, so everyone could be treated equally and not be treated based off of a symbol.

    1. I agree! I think that it does make our world creative and by taking that away, the world won't have different people. I also get why they are doing it and I agree that people should be treated equally but not based off of their religion that should have nothing to do with how people are treated.

  12. I think that bill 21 is not right and not very fair. People should be able to wear religious symbols and show that they are proud to be a part of that religion. How does wearing a religious symbol in public even affect anyone. It's part of some peoples everyday life and we, as a society. have to respect that.

  13. I think that Bill 21 one is not ok. I find it sort of disrespectful to people who are religious. Coming from a Christian, I think that you should be able to wear your religious symbol and what not because they shouldn't feel ashamed of what their religion is or their culture. I think people in our society need to accept that not everyone is the same. People come from their own religions and cultures that may not be the same as someone else and that is ok.

  14. I think that BILL 21 is unnecessary and I don't think people should be told what not to wear. I think people should be able to wear religious symbols in public because it doesn't bother anyone and if it makes the person wearing it feel more connected to their god it's better for them. I honestly don't care for this subject, I'm not religious so this rule doesn't matter to me and if it were to be enforced my lifestyle would not change.

  15. I completly agree with you on this.

  16. I thnk that Bill 21 is a very unfair. I think that you should be able to express yourself in public or anywhere. I think that Bill 21 should not be a thing and whoever made it is obvious against all the religious stuff and it's really not fair for most people. I don't think that people should e told that they have to take off anything that is religious to them, they should be proud to what religion they follow and it's nobody's buisness to what religion they follow. I think that everyone should be able to follow their religions without being descriminated.

  18. I feel that Bill 21 is not very fair soon to be law. Nobody should be aloud to tell people what religious symbols they cannot wear. They should not have to remove their religious symbols as soon as they step into public. I think that the person who thought about this unfair idea is probably does not believe in any religion and thinks there not useless, not necessary. That's my honest opinion of this matter.

  19. In my opinion I feel that bill 21 is very unfair. People should be comfortable being able to wear and express their religion. Restricting that is very unnecessary thing to do. Religion is something that is apart of people’s identity taking that away is the same as taking away their identity. They should be allowed to express and be proud of their religion but doing this takes it away. Culture has been passed on from generations and generations taking that away is so upsetting is impractical. Culture and religion is what makes the world so creative. It really opens up your eyes. Personally I am completely against bill 21 and hope that it doesn’t happen.

  20. To be completely honest, I have mixed feelings about BILL 21. Like other blogs have said, I totally agree that it is unfair and that everyone should be able to express themselves, and be proud of their religion. And for most cases, I 100% agree. But, I think one of the biggest reasons BILL 21 was passed is that some religions call for women to cover up everything but their eyes. To some people, this may scare them a little as they are unable to see who is under their “mask”. And it’s not any different then if someone walked down the street in a ski mask and trench coat. They just feel unsafe knowing if one of these people wearing this kind of religious symbol did something illegal, even killed someone, no one would know who did it. So I think in order not to be unfair, BILL 21 had to include all religions, and ban all religious symbols.

  21. Personally I think this could end very badly as religious groups could revolt over this decision and possibly destroy the economy and what the rest of the world might think about our country after such a ban. People should be able to display their religious cultures in public and not have to hide it just because the government says so, in my opinion this was a racist decision because in a way they are discriminating every religion supported in Canada.

    1. Your view is one that I have not considered and very interesting . I think that it won't reach the levels that your describing , but might end up like that in very religious communities .

  22. In my opinion, I think that Bill 21 is completely unfair. I’m going to be honest, we’re all humans and we should be able to do/wear whatever we want (of course in an appropriate way). It really isn’t necessary to make others take off their religious symbols because like I said before, they can wear whatever they want. Now my honest opinion about this topic is that it was extremely unfair and a little bit racist because they are not letting others support/express their religion.

  23. I think bill 21 is the dumbest rule ever created in the history of human kind. If somebody wants to wear a religious symbol from their religion who are we to say they can't. People here are able to wear whatever they want as long as it's not to inappropriate or, you know, nothing, so why is it fair that we can wear what we want but those from other places with other religions can't.

  24. I think that bill 21 is unfair to religious people who just want to express them selves and follow there traditions. I also dont agree because it's not harming anyone by wearing their religious symbols. I believe that there are much more important things to be established, and that bill 21 is pretty much a bad law to be setting when their is other things to worry about. Overall, I think that bill 21 should not exist and that its unfair to people who are religious and strongly believe in their religion.

  25. I personally think that bill 21 could be one of the stupidest laws that could end up passing. It doesn't make sense to me that teachers should have to remove their religion symbols just because they are working. I definitely think that people should not have to remove anything, because if you have a problem with people wearing religious symbols you must have a problem. Overall, I think there is more problems we should be worrying about and I think it should not pass.

  26. I think that Bill 21 is a pointless and unfair law.For starters it's unfair to religious people because they can't weir a cross, hijab or any other jewelry, clothes or any other thing that they believe in.It's completely pointless, I don't even understand why this law was made.People should be able to chose whether or not they want to weir a religious symbol and not be told to not weir it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Personally i do not support this bill, I do not think that just because you believe in something that others don't you can't express yourself. Certain religions have you wear different clothes than others and I think that bill 21 is taking away our basic human rights to freedom. No one should be denied a job just because they follow a religion the government doesn't like. This bill discriminates against its own citizens and it's honestly disgusting.

  28. I think that BILL21 is honestly a really dumb thing to have put in place, I find that there are other things that are more important and that they should be putting their focus on, but wearing a religious symbol in public definitely isn’t one of the things that they should be so concentrated on banning.

People should be able to wear whatever religious symbol that belongs to them, and they should only be wearing it if they want to and if it makes them happy, people shouldn't be told that they can or can’t wear something that is from their religion.

My honest opinion on this is that we have much bigger problems to worry about, but instead a group of unhappy people voted against people being able to support what they believe in, and I think that its making more people unhappy then it is making people happy.

  29. I don't really understand the whole thing and can't remember what it is for, therefore I can't really say yes or no to the bill, to me politics is totally irrelevant and that i want to live my life without worrying about stuff like this. Sure I will look more into it but for the time being with school a personal life and anything else.
