  1. I do have many concerns about what is happening with St.Thomas. If we do in fact move it will change everything as we know. There will be a lot of commotion with the students and or the teachers. I already have friends of mine that are thinking of leaving St.Thomas if we go through with this. I really don't think we should leave for only two reasons. One, I may lose a bunch of friends during this process and two it's going to be like Sec. 1 all over again because were going to have to get use to a new environment. I don't really understand why the school board is doing this because they're just going to end up losing a tone of students and no one wants that. It's just going to end in chaos like with what our principal did with our phones.

  2. I personally love St.Thomas and the building we're in but it is very old and does have a few defaults. Our school is extremely hot and humide. The rest is fine honestly but the heat in the past two weeks was crazy. I think we should definitely stay in the building that we're in because we are used to everything. If we move a lot of students will leave and some people won't be with their friends anymore. It would be like we were starting all over again. I feel like our school has and is doing great so there is no reason to touch it, you can't fix what is not broken. I don't think we will end up moving.

    1. Completely agree, I think that them knowing that many students are going to change makes the chances of us moving less likely.

    2. I completely agree. If we move buildings many students such as myself will switch it's unavoidable for students to switch schools every year. But, if we move more students than necessary will switch.

  3. Some concerns that I have about St. Thomas is that most classes are super hot, and when I'm in class it sometimes makes me sweat. If I am that hot in class, I don't think it will help me concentrate on school and on learning. Also, I think that there might be a bit too many people at St. Thomas for the size of the school. I think that we should stay because if we move it will cause a lot of people to completely change schools and will essentially make the move pointless. Another thing is that if we move I won't be seeing some of my friends that are in immersion and I wouldn't like that. I don't know if we will be switching schools but I sure hope we don't.

  4. I honestly really like St.Thomas and I have many concerns about it. I feel like everything will be so chaotic if we move, with all the students leaving and so many teachers losing their jobs. Instead of moving, I think we should just fix whatever is wrong with the school and make it bigger if we need to. Our school has managed for 50 years with what we have so I don't understand why we will move. If we do merge, we will have to get used to a new environment and new teachers. I don't think we will end up changing schools.

  5. I personally like the building we are in. Of course I have my concerns, it has its disadvantages like the heat in the classrooms, and that it is a little cramped in the hallways, but other than that the building works for us! I don't want to move because I think first of all, there will be so many students and teachers that won't be with our school anymore, and it will just be so chaotic and hectic, and everyone is used to this environment and it would be hard to get used to a new environment all over again. I think we should stay, because I think our school is good in our building.

  6. Personally , I think that the building is in a somewhat degrading state . Most of it stems from the school being build in the long forgotten era (It's a joke) . But it serves it's intended purpose with great efficiency . One of my many concern of the meeting on Wednesday is that it's all a ruse and that the school board won't listen to our opinion . Especially students , which representation of the population their choise will affect the most . I feel as is it's all just a placebo to give us the feeling of choise .

  7. It is a little bit worrying that the people who are making the decision if we move schools are adults who don't go to school anymore. I would want us to stay because I picked st Thomas as a school and I don't want to switch schools just because it works better for a couple of adults.

  8. The concerns that I have is that it is a bit fustracting that most of the people that are deciding if were moving schools or not and there npt even the ones that are going to school, I think that as students of St.Thomas should have a say in this decision. I do not think that we should move because I find that were doing just fine all together at St.thomas. Especially how we would need to leave most of our friends because only the IB kids get to mive and the rest don't. I think that as a grade we should all stick together.

  9. In my opinion, I really like St-Thomas but also, it does have some downsides. It can be very humid and a little crowded. First of all if we do move to Lindsey Place, it will also be a bit overwhelming since we won’t know where our classes are and, I would lose my friends in Immersion:( In the end, I feel like we shouldn’t move because all these years, we’ve been so far doing a good job of managing it and it would just make us lose more students.

    1. I totally agree we shouldn't be moving at all.

  10. If we were able to last at St.Thomas for 50 years, why do we need this sudden change? Sure there are a few pros with changing schools but along with that there are many cons as well. If we were to change schools it would be less humide and we would have a really clean and new school. The cons with this change is that it's a completely new environment which makes it feel like sec 1 once again, we are also going to loose many friends since a lot of students are going to be going to different schools either way and lastly teachers will be loosing their jobs. Instead of us changing schools we can just renovate certain things. Honestly, I think that these cons outweigh the pros. I hope that we can still be in this building.

  11. As a student, the major school change will affect me quite a bit. In my opinion, I do not think changing St. Thomas is going to end up being the right decision. Personally, I think St. Thomas is at a great place right now. There is nothing wrong with us at all. I actually think things are going better than okay. Our school is doing great. I’m concerned that the school board is going to mess everything up. I definitely don’t want to learn my way around a new school, nor do I want to lose some of my friends. However, I think we are all mature and strong enough to change schools, if that’s what needs to happen.

  12. Personally, I like St-Thomas and I like the school in general. There are great teachers and staff and lots of good activities. I really don't want there to be a switch because that means that all of Immersion will be forced to go somewhere else and I have some good friends in Immersion. I don't think that switching schools is the right idea. The only positive thing that I could see coming out of this whole thing is that there will be bigger hallways. That is honestly the only thing that I don't like about St-Thomas.

  13. to be completely honest I don't care too much about us moving to a different building if we have to. I've been planning on switching schools based of multiple reasons and this could be the thing that lets me switch. The building of st thomas in my opinion is fine, it serves the purpose it's intented to so I don't think it needs to change. But, at the end of my day it's not my decision if they do decide to move buildings they should be aware that many students, including myself will switch. Which can lead to another school being closed because of the lack of population.

  14. Personally, I think this is a horrible idea and I'm pretty sure I'm speaking for most of us as very few actually agree with this major “idea”. I think the board thinks it’s going to be a really easy project, but that’s only because they are looking at the logistics and the numbers, with no concern whatsoever for the community, the students, the St Thomas staff or even the school’s reputation at this point. This change will ruin St thomas as a school and as a family. The board will lose lots of great staff due to this silly change and it will decrease the success rates of the students because the teachers, administration and environment will have changed. Students will lose lots of friends due to this change, in my opinion, I think the board should have at least considered what could happen to the students. I have many concerns for this dumb idea.

  15. In my opinion, I thinks its not a very good idea becasue even tho they may think its going to be an easy change and that all IB students are gonna go to one school and the immersion to a few different ones or whatever they are thinking of doing will, it wont, because im sure lots of people are gonna choose to go to another school that works for them and st thomas will lose lots of students, like me. Im pretty much concerned for st thomas because they will lose lots of students. I think the smartest idea would be to stay because its probably what everyone wants.

  16. For me, the major school change will affect me a lot because if IB an Immersion kids get split to different schools that will mean I will have to make a whole new friend group “sorta” will be hard because im an antisocial human. Also will make getting to school a lot worse for families that have to split to get to school because of it.

  17. My concerns are going to be that the fact that I am in IB and i do not want to switch to a school I dont know of and haven't experienced. I always liked Saint thomas, being a very good school, with all my friends and good education. I think that we should stay at Saint thomas, because first of all, I have all my friends there, and also the fact that it is not too big. I also like some of the teachers, which I don't want to lose. We as a school should not move, because we are all together and with a strong community with good believes, where we don't want to be separated. I hope that the community, teachers, students and family, will speak out and voice their opinions in order for us to stay at Saint Thomas.

  18. This major school change is not a very good idea. Most of us love are school and like how we know where to go and are way around the school now. We are also used to the facilities and even tho it is very hot and humid all the time. I don't mind, I do not want to loose my friends who are not in IB!! Why should stay most of the students want to stay and I agree. We will have to re-start high school basically all over again, like seriously it's only are second year. Just starting to get used to things and they might changed know!!!!

    1. I agree! I like that we all know our way around now but soon we may have to learn the school and that could be difficult because no one will know where to go. So you can't really ask questions on how to get places so everyone is going to end up being late to classes.

    2. I agree it will be like 7th grade again, for everyone.

    3. You're completely right. The whole school would be like bumper cars with all the kids getting lost instead of just the grade 7's.

  19. In my opinion, some people may say otherwise, but hear me out. I think switching buildings is a good idea because Lindsey is a bigger building and we are over flowing with students at this point. their hallways are bigger which means less people will be late to class (hopefully) because there will be more room to go around the slow walkers. I dont think they should split up the students though. Because I have friends who are in immersion and it would be sad to have to say bye to them and end up going to different schools. I think they should bring everyone to the building if this switch does end up happening. I'm honestly not too sure how this is going to end and I'm curious to see how this plays out. I don't want to have to go but I think if we do, there will be more room but we will loose some really important and great teachers in the process.

  20. I personally think we should merge with Lindsy Place, I would like to merge because Lindsy is a much bigger and nicer building. The St.Thomas building is very old and disgusting, although the building has gotten new bathrooms it is still very small compared to Lindsay. The only bad part of the merge, I think, is that we might lose some students and students won't know there way around the school as well. I sincerely hope that we merge to get a nicer building and more space so that the hals aren't as crowded, although we might lose some students and teachers I think it is worth it to merge.

  21. I don’t really have any concerns about St. Thomas other than the fact that the school is always extremely warm in the summer and very cold in the winter. But that doesn’t mean that I’d want to change schools, I think it would be worse to change because I don’t think the busses will be able to get to Lindsay Place and get the kids to school who can’t get a ride from a friend or family member. I think that we have managed in the building that we’re in now for a long time and we can still manage now, also we would lose a lot of kids that just because we moved. I do think it is important for people to show up tonight for the meeting because if a lot of people don’t show majority would win and we would most likely go to Lindsay. I would also want to stay here because I have a lot of friends in Immersion and I wouldn't want to lose them because of this.

  22. I personally really like this building because I got used to it and the hallways and the lockers are very organized according to the classes and grades. But I do have a lot of concerns about the school, the building gets really warm if it’s a sunny day since not all the classes have air conditioning. It becomes really hard for the students to focus on this high temperature. Our school can really use a bigger space because the hallways are also really skinny so it gets really crowded between classes which causes a lot of students to be late and the cafeteria is really small even though the lunch is divided between two cycles. The gym can also be bigger because there is not enough room to do games and activities that take up a lot of space like running or soccer.

Although I don’t think that all students should be moved because it will be like starting all over again . So, no one will know where their classes are and the hallways will just be filled with confused students. This change can also cause stress to a lot of students. A lot of teachers teach both IB and immersion so if those groups are separated, many teachers will lose their jobs or will have to choose which group to teach. I will be separated from my friends who are in immersion. Another reason why St.Thomas should not be moved is because all the students applied for st. Thomas hoping to do their high schooling there. Students hoping to graduate from St. Thomas will not be able to do that if they are moved. By moving schools, a lot students will switch schools so St.Thomas will not have a good enrollment. The students that are in St.Thomas came here despite all the inconveniences like space and the fact that the building is really old .So, instead of moving, St.Thomas can be changed by expanding the building, adding more air conditioning. Our school is already taking steps for that because they already renovated the bathrooms and locker rooms .

    1. Yes I agree. Why not just expand the building.

  23. I am concerned about moving schools because it would be hard to have a new beggining. This would include how rules would work and the time classes would start. for these reasons I thiink we should stay and not move. the teachers will also lose there jobs at st thomas and i'll have to learn where everything is, where the classes are and the school layout. the only reasons i could think of about why we would have to move would be that the halls are to thin and the class rooms are too hot. it would be hard to change all the hallways but the temperature can be fixed easily. Overall, I think that we shouldnt move but we will probably still move.

  24. I am personally I am not extremely concerned about switching schools but I do have somethings to testify on. First of all St.Thomas has been at the same location for a really really long time and now that there are a lot of kids they want to move it? Its like everyone in IB will have to start sec 1 again, new school, maybe new teachers, new everything. If we switch schools there are some chances some teachers might either loose their jobs or not even work at saint Thomas anymore. Plus most of my friends are in immersion so I would be away from them and even immersion kids might get separated too if we switch which sucks because most of us chose saint Thomas for one of the reasons to be in school with our friends. I personally think we should stay but at the same time there is not a lot of space but there is still a lot to re gain if we move to Lindsey.

  25. This school is pretty good and does good for it's capacity.Lindsey place does have a few things St.Thomas lacks but I still don't want to move. The main reason I don't want us to move is because I might be out of zone considering I live in Beaurepaire. Lindsey place has a better building but it's going to be harder for more kids to get to school. Also if we move a lot of kids are probably going to go to a different school.I also don't like the fact that immersion is not moving as well.I think that we are probably going to move into lindsey place.

  26. On wednesday the twenty fifth of septembre there is a meeting about Major School change. St. thomas is a small highschool with a lot of kids that want to enroll. I really like st. Thomas and I don't want to change schools. I personally think st. Thomas needs to be renovated but its not the best looking schools but if they renovated then it would be fine. I'm not sure how it will end but I hope we don't have to move schools.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I really think we shouldnt be changing schools because our school is doing great the way it is. We have a great system going and it would be very difficult to start over again.. With new teaching staff and programs st. Thomas will not be the same as it is now. I think they should just keep renovating our school over the summer like they did with the bathrooms because our school is an old building. Most of my friends aren't going to stick with st. Thomas if this does happen, most of them are going to bhs or Renney and that's just the IB kids, we’ll be losing the whole immersion program and that's not good because people will lose a lot of friends.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I do not want to move schools. St Thomas is currently in a good position but it would just be a pain for the students and the teachers to switch. There are other schools Lindsay could move to. It would be great that if we did have to move, it would be all the kids and not just the IB kids. It would be unfortunate if I lose my immersion friends.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have a few concerns about moving to Lindsay Place. I mean I've been at St-Thomas since the beginning of my high school experience, I have so many great memories at this school. I don't think moving is really necessary. St-Thomas is one of the bet public schools in Quebec and we get lots of people wanting to come here every year so I guess going to another school would make some king of sense but even with the ever increasing amount of students I think that St-Thomas still has plenty of room and I really don't think that hallways being too small is a good reason to move schools. I mean have you ever seen one of those lockers with a lock on them? I've seen tons around the school so that must mean we at least have surplus lockers plus we just remodeled the bathrooms for like 1.2 million dollars! And the worst part is if we move to Lindsay place we're taking our IB classes and just ditching everyone in emersion, so if we move to this school we'll be losing half the kids from our school not to mention how many of the IB kids will leave the school to either be with their friends or just to not be at Lindsay place, and if that wasn't enough I hear a lot of the teachers from our school will be moved or just straight up fired! I just don't think that's right. They say that Lindsay Place will be called St-Thomas after we move but it will never be the same St-Thomas I went to in sec 1. Without the emersion kids and all the teachers St-Thomas isn't St-Thomas. So basically for me I think moving to Lindsay Place is the dumbest, stupidest and most inconsiderate thing the government could have thought up to fix our hallway problem and I hope they manage to see their stupidity before it's to late.
