This week you watched the play A Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare.

What do you know about Shakespeare?
What did you think of the performance?
The play deals with the issue of IDENTITY.
How is IDENTITY discussed in today's world?
Should schools continue teaching Shakespeare?

Explain.

  1. To be fully honest I pretty much know nothing about Shakespeare but I know that he has some bucks and people do plays about his stories like we saw today. I thought that the performance was good and funny but I did find it pretty long, I mean it was good that we missed 2 and a half periods but it was still pretty long. Identity is discussed in today's world is by your religion, and on of your gender or if you are gay or straight. I think that schools shouldn't continue teaching Shakespeare because it is so hard to understand what he is trying to say and the bucks don't make any sense when were reading it.

  2. In my opinion, I don't really know much about Shakespeare but I do know that his books are really hard to read and sometimes don't make sense. I liked how during the performance, they included stuff in our generation and made it more understandable. I think that identity is discussed in our world by our religion, race, gender and sexuality. Finally, schools shouldn't be teaching Shakespeare because it's hard to read/understand what's going on during the story.

  3. I know that Shakespear was a famous play writer who wrote very popular and funny plays when he was alive. I personally didn't like the Canada Shakespeare theater program’s play, I didn't find it funny and I hated the music and the dancing they did. I don't think that schools could teach Shakespeare because it is not relevant in today's world and it is very difficult to understand the writing because of how much the language has changed.

    1. I agree with your opinion that some of the music and dancing was dreadful.

  4. I don't know much about Shakespeare, mostly because I'm not into early English literature. I think that the group performed really well, but some of the scenes were just unpleasant for me, since I don't think that pop culture references should belong in a Shakespeare play. I think that schools should continue teaching Shakespeare in their courses. This is because Shakespeare offers a great view into how old English was and what it's like.

  5. I don't know too much about Shakespeare, I just know that he wrote lots of stories. I thought the performance today was sort of weird that it took place in the 80's and that it was a musical sort of thing because that is very different from most Shakespeare stories. I think, in today's world, identity is discussed quite a bit. I think some people tend to put their identity in something they shouldn't but also sometimes they should. I don't think it really matters whether or not they teach Shakespeare. I think sometimes it can be fun because some of the lines in the stories are funny but sometimes it can be very difficult to understand from the old English or just boring at times.

  6. I don’t know much about Shakespeare because in school, we only talk about his stories, and not him. I thought that the performance today was well done, and I liked the storyline on Shakespeare’s part, but I thought some of the jokes were weird and not funny. Identity is discussed in today’s world because we are all about expressing your true colours and being your true self. I think schools should still teach Shakespeare because he is a pretty important person and it is good to be exposed to old English.

  7. I don't know anything about Shakespeare. To be honest, I didn't even know how to write his name before today. To be completely honest, the play wasn't for me. I didn't find most of the jokes funny. The cast did try their best and seemed to be having fun, so that's a good sign. I think identity is discussed in today's world by the way we present ourselves. Whether it's religion, through our clothing or through our nationality our identity is expressed. I think schools should briefly teach Shakespeare because he was an important part of expression through english stories.

  8. I dont know anything about Shakespeare all I know is that we read a book by him last year in English class and it was kind of boring. The performance today was actually pretty funny to me because there were a lot of jokes and I laugh very easily. I think identity is presented by the way we put ourselves out there or the way people see us. I dont really know how its discussed though. I think Shakespeare is interesting if that is your thing but if your not really into his kind of stuff then I dont recommend it.

  9. Today’s play was very interesting. I think that it was funny when they called in the audience to participate. I don’t really like Shakespeare that well because I don’t really understand the language but my favorite would probably be Romeo and Juliette. I think Shakespeare has a good history but there are many other thing historical and more interesting than Shakespeare.

  10. I'm one of those people that don't know much about Shakespeare. I feel as if it takes a lot of talent, hard work and dedication to be a Shakespearean. I thought the performance was well done and I really enjoyed it. Identity is discussed today because we are all about expressing your colors and being true to yourself like my other fellow classmates said. I think Shakespeare should still be studied in school because it's an important time in history.

  11. To be honest I'dont know anything about Shakespeare. I'm not the biggest fan of plays/shakespeare, but it definitely wasn't the worst play I've seen. Identity is expressed today because, people need to show who they are and express themselves. I do not think shakespeare should be taught it schools, the words are too long and it doesn't interest most people our age.

  12. I am personally not really into Shakespeare and not the biggest fan of Shakespeare, but they had already come to Saint Thomas last year. I think that their performance wasn't that bad but there were some parts where i would lose interest and found it a bit weird. But in all they took lots of time to make this so it wasn't that bad. Identity is discussed lots in this world, as everyone has a different identity. I personally think they shouldn't teach Shakespeare as I didn't really like it but I guess that they should still go teach around at schools.

  13. I know much about Shakespeare but I did read one of his books last year in my English class and I didn't enjoy it much. The language was hard to understand so it didn't keep me interested for very long. I think the performance was good but it was a bit long. I liked that they added things from our generation to make it easier to understand and to keep us interested in the play. I think identity is discussed today when talking about religion, ethnicity and etc. I do think that schools should most definitely keep teaching Shakespeare because it's an important part of the past that everyone should read at least once.

  14. I did not know much about Shakespeare before last year. That was my first time reading Shakespeare, we read Midsummer Night's Dream. I liked the story and plot, it was funny but sometimes the language was challenging to understand, but other than that I did not mind it. I thought the play had some funny and interesting parts, I liked it. I think identity is discussed today in how we express ourselves, when we speak to each other and more. I think schools should teach Shakespeare because it not only teaches us about english but also about the past, and it has good storylines.

  15. I don't know much about Shakespeare, but I do know that his English skills derailed relatively quickly. I thought the the play was cool at times, a little comedic as well. identity is more of a legal issue nowadays rather than a confusion between two. especially with the internet and things like that. Personally, I don't appreciate learning about Shakespeare since it is really difficult to understand, It's like learning Chinese with English letters.

  16. Not going to lie i am not a very big shakespeare fan but some plays I do find interesting. I thought it was very different and not my type but it was still decent. In todays world, identies are expressed in a much better way then back in the day. I think schools should continue showing shakespeare plays because they are really interesting for students and gives them a break from class.

  17. I know that Shakespeare rights books or something, but that's really all I know about him. I find that the play was okay, but at times I was really starting to lose interest. Some parts were funny, though. Identity in today's world is basically religion and gender, which is way too basic. You can't truly judge someone on what gender they are or what religion they follow, because everyone is unique and different in their own way. I think that Shakespeare should continue to be taught at schools because it shows what Old English was like and Shakespeare was a very popular play maker, so I think most people should know him.

  18. I honestly don’t know much about Shakespeare. All I know is that he wrote plays. The Shakespeare play we had in school was okay. I like the acting but I feel like the play we saw last year was better. This play wasn’t that interesting and it took me a long time to know the characters. The twin part was really confusing and so were the sisters. But other than that, it was good. Identity in today’s world is discussed by gender, race, sexuality and age. I believe that schools should not continue teaching Shakespeare because I honestly don’t see the point of learning old English since no one uses it anymore. I don’t see how reading Shakespeare will help human beings in the future, not like we are going to speak old English with anyone. I think that students should just know that old English exists and learn a little about it but not spend a lot of time learning it.

  19. I know that shakespere was an english man who wrote books and plays.I don't know much about him but that's the basics of him.The performance was decent.I know how they were trying to make it fun and relatable for kids to keep us entertained but it really turned out cringy. In our world today there are so many people in the world that more than two people will have the same name, it's not uncommon. But we do have the issue of identity theft in todays society. This is something that happens more today than it did while shakespere was alive.I think that yes schools should continue studying and learning about shakespere. He created a lot of words that we wouldn't have today if it wasn't for him.He is a very important figure in history.
