A man from British Columbia was FIRED because he COMPLAINED about his Christmas gift.

Using Twitter, the man complained about receiving BBQ sauce as a gift!
He also ranted about how his US co-workers got MUCH better gifts!

Do you think the company made the right decision to FIRE this man?
Why do people turn to social media to rant and complain?
Explain.

  1. I think this guy maybe should not of put this on twitter a place where his boss could see, but i also think a bbq sauce is not a good gift. It also had like no effort and thought to purchase this gift. But I think the company went a bit to far with firing him but he should of not posted his comment online. Basically everyone these days are on social media so I guess this guy knew people would see this and either agree with him or make him think he is not the only one dealing with this.

  2. I don't really think the man should be fired. I don't think he did anything wrong involving his job. He should not be fired for voicing his opinion about a bad gift he received. Although, he voiced his opinions on twitter I don't think that was the place to complain about. On twitter, maybe some of his co-workers followed him and felt a bit upset about it.

  3. I think they fired him for a good reason because if he was going to complain about a Christmas gift then he most likely complains a lot which can be extremely annoying after awhile. He got a Christmas gift that he should be happy about getting because a lot of people don't receive gifts on Christmas. People rant and complain on the internet because it is a lot easier to pour your feelings out online then to talk to actual people about any issues or problems that you can be facing.

  4. I think that they shouldn't have fired him because there was no reason that they should give everyone else good gifts but only him a bad gift unless it was a prank and they were gonna give him a better gift later. I think people turn to social media because more people are on there phone than looking at tv so they want more people to see what they are trying to put out there.

  5. I think this company has the right to fire this man because if he was an embracement to the company they wouldn't want that on there staff. I think people run to social media to rant and complain because if someone comments and agrees with them its makes them feel good. I feel like its a way out the situation.

  6. I personally think that he should not have complained on social media but I do think the company went a little over the top. The gift he received seemed like it was very last minute and not thought out. I wouldn't have been too happy to get barbecue sauce as a gift either. I don't think they should have fired him for something that small. I think people turn to social media to rant and complain because it's easier to get mad or sad when it's on the internet and not in person.

  7. I do not think that this company should have fired the man. It was rude and really disrespectful of him to complain about his christmas gift. But, I understand that bbq is not a good idea for a christmas present and I get why he was complaining. He just have expressed his opinion somewhere else instead of Twitter, though.

  8. To be honest, I don't really think that it is necessary to fire someone just because they complained about his gift. He was simply just giving a complaint saying that maybe it wasn't fair. I agree that he should not have made a big deal but they did not need to fire him over it. In my opinion, people rant about something on social media because it is easier to take out your anger online then in person.

  9. In my opinion, I think itv wasnt right to fire him. He probably didnt actually care for the gift he just wanted it to be equal and he probably thought they were being racists since they gave the americans something better. He was just trying to prove that what they did was not fair. People usually turn to social media because now days everyones always on it and if you post a complaint or rant you will be heard and people will notice you.

  10. I think that this guy had to chill himself, and didn't have to complain on social media. I also think that the company took it too far, and don't have to fire him from his job. Christmas is an event where we spend time together sand presents don't matter. I think that people rant on social media because they are scared to do it in person and think that the people wont see it online.

  11. I honestly don't think it was right to fire this man. I think people should be able to express their opinion however he did take it a step too far. I mean, maybe it wasn't fair that he just got BBQ but he should be grateful that he did get a gift. I don't think it was necessary to fire him though. I think people turn to social media to rant and complain because they can be heard on social media. A lot of things go viral and I think people are just hoping that lots of people will understand them and relate to them as well as give them feedback. People also turn to social so that they can be admired if people do agree with them. A lot of people just fish for compliments and admiration and you can get quite a bit of that through social media which helps people not only with their self confidence, but it makes them feel good about them selves because other people are admiring them.

    1. I completely agree about that last part! Some people really just crave that attention on social media.

  12. I think that the company made the right decision to fire this man because no one needs someone who is representing the company be mean online. As bad as this punishment may seem, I think of it less as a punishment than protection for the company. If someone hoping to work for or do business with this company sees an employee being rude online, they might change their mind really quickly. People tend to turn to social media to rant because it is the only place people can’t ignore them or tell them to stop complaining. No one else wants to be seen online as a mean or rude person, so people just shut their mouth and let them complain. I also believe that the people who rant like this on social media are the ones who didn’t get enough attention at home growing up. All they want is to be heard, and if social media is the only place where that happens, then that’s where they will rant. Don’t get wrong, sometimes social media ranting is a good thing, like when something terrible happens at a store to someone and the police won’t help them, then they need to tell someone. But situations where they rant about barbecue sauce? That’s a waste of both of our time.

  13. i think that the company mad e right decision firing the man because there is no pint in putting something online and making the company look bad. In the end the man shouldn't have took this situation this far and could've acted his age and just dealt with getting bbq sauce as a present. I mean it is better than nothing. A lot of people turn social media into something where they can complain and argue about unnecessary things and I honestly think it is absolutely useless because there is literally no good in it.

  14. I see the company's point of view, firing the man for saying something online about that, but in the end, they could have just asked him calmly to remove the post, that way they can just forget about this little incident. I think the man may have took this situation a little too seriously. I think people use social media to complain and rant because they think no one will care or see it and they're behind a screen so they aren't as shy to say what they feel.

  15. I find that is a ridiculous way to have been fired over nothing. I totally understand that he was being rude online, but the company took it way to far. The man was only trying to express his feelings and wasn't trying to offend anyone. I'm not really sure why people such as this man turn to social media. I guess people turn to social media to rant and complain because it's easier to get mad or sad when it's on the internet and not in person.

  16. I think that the company was wrong for firing this man just because he complained about his gift, I honestly think that the reason they fired him was something other than that. For example if he was rude to his co-workers, or his work wasn't the best they fired him because of all the little things he did that was bad for the company and complaining about his gift was probably the last straw. I think a lot of people turn to social media to complain and rant because it is generally a safe environment were not many people judge you. If someone has a lot of followers they feel protected and generally more secure being themselves around them because they are supported and feel as if people understand their struggles.

  17. Personally, I agree with the company firing that guy because there is no point of keeping someone that is rude and disrespectful. I think the work that people do for their company isn’t the only thing that matters, a person also needs to have good attitude in order to deserve a job. Because personally, I wouldn't want to work with a person that is rude and is always ranting and complaining because it can get very annoying.
Another reason why I agree with the company is that he also didn’t show a good image of the company by being immature since he said his co-workers in US got better gifts. So by doing this, he made the company have a bad impression.
I think that people complain on social media because they want to get attention. And sometimes they want people to feel bad for them and to gain sympathy. I also think that they complain on social media because sometimes they have nowhere else to complain and nobody can stop people from complaining on social media.
And to be honest this man shouldn’t complain about getting a bad gift because first of all, at least he received a gift. Some people don’t even get any gifts so I think that he should be grateful for what he already has instead of complaining about it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. No, I don't think he should've been fired for making a mistake. The gift that he received isn't a gift that many people would like to receive. It just matters how you take the gift, he didn't have to vent on twitter about what he was gifted. I think people use social media to rant about their problems because they don't think someone who would get hurt would see it. In this case, his attempt backfired and cost him his job.

  19. Personally I feel that they should not have fired him. Even though he should not have posted his negative comment, I feel as they took it too personally. I feel that both people are wrong in this situation. Even if BBQ sauce isn't such an ideal gift, he shouldn't have ranted about his gift online where it will be public and others can see. Many people turn to social media plat forms to complain about their problems but don't seem to realize that other people can see too. They tend to forget what they're posting and how it can hurt others feelings.

  20. I think that him deciding to turn to social media may not have been such a good idea and he didnt think what he did through completely because it got him fired. I think who he worked for may have been embarrassed and got bad publicity for it and that's why he decided to fire him. I also think that firing him was also a little uncalled for since all what he did wasn't so bad. The internet is a good place for people to turn to and talk to because it's less confrontational.

  21. No. The company made a mistake in firing him. Instead of laying him off they should've considered what he said and taken it. Maybe talking to him about not disrespecting the company would be a better option. I think people turn to social media to rant because it saves them of the chance that the targeted person would get mad because its harder to see on social media.
